Owner of A Plus Heating & A/C
27 Years Old • Johnstown
Tell us about yourself, your history and how you came to be where you are now.
I grew up in western Nebraska, where I discovered a passion for fixing things at a young age. I landed my first job when I was 16 at a local heating and air conditioning company. Starting as a helper and continually growing as an installer, service technician, supervisor and now business owner, I have seen all aspects of the trade. I purchased A Plus Heating & A/C in March 2023 with a focus on providing rewarding careers and serving our community.
Explain your career, achievements and professional highlights.
My career in the HVAC industry has been a reflection of my determination, work ethic and drive to win. After graduating as “head of class” from Mid-Plains Community College’s HVAC program in 2018 and quickly climbing the ladder at one of the largest residential HVAC companies in the state, I realized that I have a special skill in HVAC. I now focus on creating rewarding careers and serving our community. I recently bought my second HVAC company in Northern Colorado and am excited to provide A Plus service for those customers.
In what ways do you give back to the community?
We have partnered with Lennox’s Feel The Love program, where we donate our time and materials to install a brand-new HVAC system for someone in need. We also work with Roosevelt High School’s work-based learning program, where students are able to gain experience in a trade while earning high school credits. We are proud to offer free furnace tune-ups to veterans in our community during our slow season.
What do you consider the biggest accomplishment or challenge you’ve overcome, either professionally or personally?
My biggest accomplishment was closing the deal on my first business. At the time, I was 24 years old and very comfortable in my current situation, with a stable job and my own home. I was presented the idea of buying A Plus Heating & A/C, and without hesitation, I executed it and hit the ground running.
Tell us something unique about you.
Work makes me happy. I truly enjoy what I do, not only now but over my entire career. I have loved going to work since I was introduced to the HVAC industry when I was 16, and I show up with the same passion today.
Where do you see yourself in five years? In 10 years?
I have big dreams. In five years, I plan to continue the growth of A Plus Heating & A/C and make a huge impact in Northern Colorado by offering rewarding careers, giving back and providing a service people can’t resist telling their friends and family about. In 10 years, I see myself investing in real estate and starting a consulting firm where I can help other business owners grow.
What piece(s) of advice would you give to your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to connect with people who have a positive impact, ask them great questions and create strong relationships. It’s not what you know. It’s who you know.
How did you know HVAC was your calling?
My first job was at a local heating and air conditioning company in my hometown. After just a few weeks on the job, I knew that this was what I was called to do. Resolving issues and seeing the appreciation after helping a customer with no heat or cooling was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I did everything I could to improve my technical skills and customer service, which in turn led to new opportunities in the industry.
How did you buy a business at such a young age?
I believe I was able to accomplish this by learning as much as possible in my previous years in the trade. Having worked as an installer, service technician and in a management position, I was able to see the industry from all angles, which gave me the ability to operate my own business.
Local business shoutout:
My favorite local business is Mayer Plumbing, which offers fast, affordable and reliable plumbing services to Northern Colorado. I enjoy Mayer because I can refer my clients to a business that I know, like and trust. I highly recommend them for any residential plumbing needs.
