The City of Fort Collins Art in Public Places Program is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Transformer Cabinet Mural Project with a special exhibition honoring the artists, partnerships and public artwork that have turned transformer cabinets into vibrant works of art throughout the city. On view from Sept. 11-Nov. 20 at the Lincoln Center, “Beyond the Box: Celebrating 20 Years of the Transformer Cabinet Mural Project” highlights two decades of creativity through photographs along with the artists’ mural designs, models and painting supplies.
A painted transformer cabinet is also on display, giving visitors an opportunity to see what’s on the inside. Twenty-four past cabinet mural artists were invited to create a 12-by-12-inch canvas inspired by their work, offering visitors an opportunity to experience their talents in a gallery setting. These special canvases will be available for purchase for $100 each, giving community members a unique opportunity to collect local art.
“Beyond the Box” celebrates the artists, staff and community partners who have contributed to the Transformer Mural Project’s success and invites residents to reflect on two decades of public art that continue to brighten streets throughout Fort Collins.
Meet participating artists, learn about the history of the project and hear firsthand how public art has helped shape Fort Collins’ neighborhoods and public spaces at an artist panel discussion from 6-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.
