Loveland Author Releases New Adult Romance Novel

Acclaimed Northern Colorado writer and journalist Shelley Widhalm announced the release of her latest literary adult novel, “The Fire Painter,” now available worldwide on Amazon. Set against a timely backdrop of a nation gripped by external turmoil, the novel delivers a poignant, emotionally charged story about loss, resilience and the spark of unexpected connection.

“The Fire Painter,” published in September by Pearl Ann Publishing, takes place in Castor, a fictionalized town modeled closely after the fun hotspots and Sweetheart City appeal of Loveland. The story centers on an artist who loses everything to a devastating house fire. As she struggles to rebuild her life and her art from literal ashes, she crosses paths with a charismatic, passionate musician. What begins as a chance encounter quickly evolves into a deep, complex romance. As their two worlds collide, the narrative masterfully explores how creativity can serve as both a sanctuary and a weapon when processing profound grief and trying to rise from the ashes.

“Art and music have an incredible capacity to heal us when our physical worlds fall apart,” Widhalm says. “Writing ‘The Fire Painter’ allowed me to explore that fragile, fiery intersection of two people reconstructing their lives, finding grounding and learning to trust again when the world around them is burning.”

Perfect for readers of literary romance, magical realism and contemporary adult fiction, “The Fire Painter” blends sharp, atmospheric prose with crisp dialog and fiery, detailed settings. The novel stands as a testament to the endurance of the human spirit and the transformative power of love and creativity.

“The Fire Painter” is available in print and digital formats on Amazon, and Widhalm’s second novel will be released in 2027. She will also be releasing her first poetry collection. Her other works include “Fifty Tips for First-Time Authors,” published in 2020.
