The City of Loveland has appointed Erik Rock as the new manager of the Loveland Public Library. Rock, who has served as acting manager since June, was selected following a competitive search with four highly qualified finalists.
“The city celebrates the selection of Erik Rock to serve as the library manager,” says Kara Kish, community placemaking director. “Erik is a passionate and qualified public servant who is profoundly committed to the Loveland community and the library staff. The library is a critical and vibrant community hub, beloved and essential to Loveland. Erik is a trusted, collaborative and visionary leader who is a champion of the Community Placemaking Department’s purpose of Providing Lifelong Access to Connections and Experiences.”
The Loveland Public Library is owned and operated by the City of Loveland, funded through the city’s general fund and supported by sales tax dollars. As library manager, Rock will lead the library in continuing to serve Loveland residents, ensuring it provides the programs, access to technology and early literacy services the community depends on.
Rock brings more than 16 years of experience in various roles at several Colorado libraries and has served the City of Loveland since 2017. In his role as acting library manager, Rock has led the library through critical stages of change as the library joined the newly unified Community Placemaking Department earlier this spring.
Prior to serving as acting library manager, Rock served as technology manager, overseeing a technology team and one of the largest library computer labs in northern Colorado. Additionally, he secured grant funding and led a team to launch an AmeriCorps pilot program delivering technology coaching and device distribution to Loveland and Larimer County residents.
As a community member who grew up in Loveland and enjoyed the library from a young age, Rock brings dedication and leadership to the community, as demonstrated by his work leading efforts to expand digital literacy in Loveland and northern Colorado.
“To lead the library that shaped me in my youth is both a profound privilege and a full-circle moment,” Rock says. “Together with our dedicated librarians and professional staff, we will continue driving innovation, championing literacy, ensuring access to services and creating a welcoming place where every community member can connect and belong.
