City parks and public art team up to improve community site

Hoshiko Park and the Rodarte Community Center are getting a bold new look and expanded play opportunities, thanks to community development improvement funds. Starting this winter, families and youth can enjoy a modern, colorful space featuring a new basketball court, outdoor games, a custom mural and new lighting.

Games include four-square, tetherball, game tables, hopscotch and two concrete cornhole sets. New site furnishings and landscaping will also be added around the court.

The art component of the project builds on Rodarte’s growing tradition of public art that celebrates youth and community pride. The Rodarte Center’s east wall features a well-known mural by Greeley artist Armando Silva. His artwork was created to inspire academic success and encourage local youth to dream big. The new court continues this theme by bringing art directly into the play space.

Local artist and educator Felisha Bustos will design and paint a custom mural on the new basketball court. She will work closely with Rodarte youth, so the artwork reflects their ideas, interests and hopes for their community. Once construction is complete, Felisha will hand-paint the design across the court surface, adding another meaningful piece of public art to the site.

Construction timeline
Fall 2025

In early December, crews will remove the old play area and prepare the site for the new court. This phase should take about two weeks. For safety, the area will be fenced off through the winter and early spring.

Spring 2026

Crews will install the concrete court, paint game lines, place game tables and furnishings, add the cornhole sets and finish sod and irrigation work. The artist will schedule the mural painting once installation dates are set. Updates will be shared on Greeley Recreation’s social media channels as construction progresses.
