The Greeley Historic Preservation Commission invites the public to kick off summer with free historic preservation events in Greeley.
On Monday, June 8, city historic preservation planner Betsy Kellums will lead a walking tour celebrating two big anniversaries: the 30th anniversary of the Meeker Home designation on the Greeley Historic Register and the 60th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act. This act helped create Greeley’s historic preservation program 29 years later. The tour will begin at 6 p.m. at the Meeker Home, located at 1324 9th Ave. Bring a water bottle, good walking shoes and an umbrella in case of rain.
At noon on Thursday, June 25, join local historian and educator Susan Seager at the Greeley History Museum, located at 714 8th St. Seager will present “Dorothy Gardiner: History and Mystery.” Dorothy Gardiner, the granddaughter of Greeley Union Colonist J. Max Clark, was a local author who wrote mysteries and history books. She wrote “A Drink for Mr. Cherry,” a historical fiction novel about a cold-case murder that remains unsolved. This event is an opportunity to learn more about one of Greeley’s most famous authors.
