The Magic Rat Film Showcase continues its momentum with the fourth installment of its popular monthly series, presenting METHOD, a gripping psychological drama from co-writer/directors Nkosi Romá and Ryan Holly, on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at The Magic Rat inside The Elizabeth Hotel.
This monthly showcase has quickly become a cornerstone of Fort Collins’ creative scene, offering audiences the opportunity to connect deeply with independent films and the people who make them. Each showcase blends story, conversation, and community into a unique cultural experience.
“The response has been incredible,” says showcase creator, Shantel Hansen. “There’s a hunger for community, creativity, and meaningful connection and The Magic Rat Film Showcase has become the perfect venue to bring it all together in a way that feels both intimate and electric.”
From emerging co-writer/directors Nkosi Romá and Ryan Holly, METHOD follows Gideon, an aspiring actor who spirals into a haunting confrontation with fear, identity, and obsession. As he is pushed to his limits by a relentless theater director, the film explores the devastating cost of artistic sacrifice and the blurry line between performance and reality.
The schedule for the evening includes:
- 6 p.m. – Happy Hour & Networking
- 7p.m. – 7:30 p.m. – Film Screening: METHOD: A chilling and cinematic deep dive into identity, fear, and obsession.
- 7:30 p.m. –8:30 p.m. – Talk-Back with Maya Ortega, Nkosi Romá & Ryan Holly: Join moderator Maya Ortega in a live discussion with the filmmakers as they unpack the film’s process, themes, and psychological complexity.
- 8:30 p.m.– 9:30 p.m. – Hands-On 16mm Filmmaking with Nkosi Romá: A rare demonstration of 16mm filmmaking, where attendees can gain firsthand experience with analog tools and techniques in this intimate, inspiring workshop. *additional ticket required.
“Exhibition is vital to artists, especially filmmakers, because the entire creative process is endured with the audience in mind. Launched earlier this year, the Magic Rat Film Showcase is a vibrant monthly event series that highlights bold voices, personal stories, and underrepresented perspectives in independent cinema. Held at The Magic Rat inside The Elizabeth Hotel, the series brings together filmmakers, community members, hotel guests, and curious minds to celebrate the power of storytelling.
