“The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self” invites visitors to discover contemporary assemblage and installation art throughout the mall
This summer, shopping becomes an opportunity for artistic discovery as Foothills Mall and Louise Cutler Studio present “The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self,” an immersive exhibition transforming vacant storefront windows into a public art experience featuring contemporary assemblage and installation art. Running July 10-Sept. 27, 2026, the exhibition is part of Art Takeover the Mall, an ongoing initiative that reimagines commercial space as a place for creativity, culture and community engagement. The exhibition is free and open to the public during mall hours.
Featuring 12 contemporary artists from across the U.S., “The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self” explores how ordinary materials, reclaimed objects and carefully constructed environments can become powerful expressions of memory, identity, transformation and connection. Through assemblage and installation art, artists invite viewers to reconsider familiar materials and reflect on their relationships with one another, their surroundings and the natural world.
Rather than presenting art within a traditional gallery setting, the exhibition invites visitors to encounter creativity as part of everyday life—while shopping, dining or simply walking through the mall. Each storefront becomes a window into an artist’s unique vision, encouraging curiosity, reflection and conversation.
“’The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self’ asks us to slow down and reconsider the world around us,” says Louise Cutler, founder of Louise Cutler Studio and curator of Art Takeover the Mall. “Assemblage artists transform overlooked materials and fragments into works filled with meaning. In much the same way, this exhibition transforms everyday commercial spaces into places where art, reflection and connection can happen.”
A highlight of the exhibition is the work of nationally recognized sculptor James Dixson, whose bronze sculptures are included in numerous public and private collections throughout the country. His work has been acquired by the Black American West Museum in Denver and the Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art in Denver, which has added six of Dixson’s bronze sculptures to its permanent collection. His sculptures are also held in private collections of notable cultural figures, including Patti LaBelle, Ashford & Simpson, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Hazel Miller and Cleo Parker Robinson. Dixson’s participation brings a distinguished voice in contemporary figurative sculpture to the exhibition, highlighting the depth and diversity of artistic practices represented in “The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self.”
The exhibition also features the mixed-media work of Atlanta-based artist Donna Jones Northington, whose practice explores the interconnectedness of humanity, the natural world and the built environment. Through her Nano Plastic Series, Northington transforms reclaimed plastic materials into thought-provoking works that examine the relationship between everyday consumption, environmental impact and the lasting traces humans leave behind. Her work invites viewers to reconsider familiar materials and reflect on how the objects surrounding our lives shape our shared experience.
Together, Dixson and Northington represent two distinct approaches to transformation: one through the enduring language of bronze sculpture and the human figure, and the other through reclaimed materials and contemporary environmental storytelling. Their work reflects the larger vision of the exhibition, which is discovering new meaning by reassembling fragments of our world.

Visitors are invited to attend the opening reception and art walk on Friday, July 10, where they can explore the installations throughout the mall and meet many of the participating artists. A second opportunity to engage with the exhibition will take place during the artist talk and Q&A on Thursday, Aug. 6, offering visitors an inside look at the ideas, materials and creative processes behind the installations.
More than an exhibition, “The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self” demonstrates how art can transform everyday spaces into places of reflection, discovery and shared experience, making creativity a visible and welcoming part of community life.
