Three collaborative paintings created by Northern Colorado community members over the course of the past year will be featured at Tapestry: Community Art, Music and Collective Wellbeing, a free public event taking place 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Oak Street Plaza in downtown Fort Collins.
Presented by NOCO Creative Network and benefiting the Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County, Tapestry brings together local artists, live music, community organizations, therapy animals and interactive creative experiences centered around connection, creativity and collective wellbeing.
The event grew out of a community art project led by Fort Collins artist and musician Sheri Lauren. During First Friday Art Walks and Open Studios, community members were invited to contribute their own words, drawings and reflections to a series of collaborative paintings exploring the people and experiences that support us through life’s challenges.
What began as a single painting evolved into three large-scale collaborative works shaped by the participation of dozens of community members across Northern Colorado.
The completed paintings will be featured at Tapestry and given away through a public fundraising effort supporting the Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view and purchase a one-of-a-kind handmade tapestry created by artist Henry Haynes, with proceeds benefiting suicide prevention efforts.
Tapestry also marks the inaugural public event of NOCO Creative Network, a newly formed artist-led initiative working to strengthen connections between artists, opportunities and resources across Northern Colorado.
The event is free and open to the public.
