On Saturday, June 20, Rescued Friends Animal Sanctuary is hosting a Mediterranean dinner at their farm. There will be cocktails, mocktails, dessert at sunset and a tour of the sanctuary. It will take place from 5-8 p.m. at 1409 Grey Rock Drive in Fort Collins. The cost is $60 per person.
Rescued Friends Animal Sanctuary provides a haven for abused and neglected farm animals. It offers humane education to the community as it celebrates all life and cultivates compassion. Part of the mission of the sanctuary is to teach the vegan way of living. Farm animals are often not seen as worthy of rescue yet suffer as some of the most abused creatures on the planet.
The sanctuary was started by co-founders Amy Smith and Von Bortz in 2016, and it received tax-exempt status that same year. The animals living at the sanctuary are getting a second chance. At the sanctuary, you will not find cats and dogs, but there are groups of chickens, pigs, cows, alpacas, turkeys, donkeys and herds of goats enjoying their best lives.
The animals are provided for through public donations. The dinner on June 20 is one of the fundraisers during the year to help finance food, veterinarian appointments and daily care for the animals. If you are unable to attend the dinner but would like to contribute to the support of the animals, please visit rescuedfriends.org/donate.
The hope of the founders is not only to save animals from needless pain and suffering, but to open some minds and challenge long-held beliefs. They want to make a difference in your personal life as well as in the lives of the animals. They dream of a day when compassionate eating choices are a given.
