The 10th and Final Monster Day Greeley Event

After a diabolical decade, Distortions Unlimited has decided to put a stake in Monster Day Greeley.

The final event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, from noon to 5 p.m. A Monster Day kickoff concert is on deck the night before, Aug. 21, from 6-10 p.m.

Monster Day is a beloved tradition that transforms the 8th and 9th Street plazas and 9th Avenue in downtown Greeley into a full-blown monster mash, complete with roaming creatures, photo ops, professional makeup demos, vendor booths, performances, face painting, kids’ activities and the fan-favorite costume contest.

What began 10 years ago as an idea from Ed Edmunds of Distortions Unlimited, Monster Day has grown into a nationally attended event celebrating all things monster.

“We’ve loved doing Monster Day with all our hearts for almost a decade now,” Edmunds says, “but just like an old vampire, it’s time to put a stake in it.”

Monster Day is a partnership between Distortions Unlimited, Greeley’s world-famous Halloween manufacturing company, downtown Greeley and other committed partners and committee members.

“When Ed Edmunds of Distortions Unlimited fame as well as the Travel Channel show ‘Making Monsters’ approaches you with a ‘crazy idea’ to create a day to celebrate monsters, you help make it happen,” says Karen Baumgartner, office and events manager with the Greeley Downtown Development Authority. “We had no idea at the time that we literally created a monster. Monster Day would not be the same without Ed and Marsha, so even though we are sad to see Monster Day coming to an end, we will help to make this year’s celebration the best ever.”

Discussions are underway about an annual fall event formulated with the same spirit as Monster Day.

“When we first planned to create Monster Day, we knew it would be a creative experience, but we had no idea what it would grow to become. As a committee member for all 10 years, Monster Day has broadened my appreciation of creativity and how a community can come together to celebrate monsters in our culture,” says Michelle Kempema, executive director of the Colorado Model Railroad Museum.

Plans are underway to make this the biggest Monster Day celebration ever. More details will be released leading up to the event. Follow Monster Day on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date.
