Recognizing local preservation efforts during the Historic Preservation Month celebration

The Greeley Historic Preservation Commission awarded three Historic Preservation Month Awards during a celebration on May 19. The event took place at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Weld County Teen Center at Warnoco. The awards honor people and groups who help care for Greeley’s historic buildings and places.

Award Winners

Individual Category: John Jacobs and Brooke Cole restored the outside of their home, the Jacobs/Nixon House. Their house is listed on the Greeley Historic Register. They repaired and painted the wood siding, highlighting the home’s original windows and doors. Other highlights include the river-rock foundation, side porch, chimney and front pillars.

Contractor/Design Professional Category: Jeff Tori of 21st Century Painting worked on several historic properties, including the Southard Gillespie House. He is honored for his skill, quality work and understanding of preparing and painting old siding to restore it instead of replacing it. His work helps historic buildings last longer and stay true to their original look.

Organization Category: Allo Fiber restored the outside of their building at 808 9th St. They took off modern paneling and brought back the original arched designs on the front. Inside, they repaired some of the original tile floors. Their work helped turn the old office supply building into an attractive part of Greeley’s historic downtown.
