No Tricks, Just Treats

Is your kid looking for places to load up on candy and show off their creative Halloween costume? Or are you hoping they plunder and loot so much candy that they don’t notice when you steal some? Regardless of your motivation, there are a number of safe, organized trick-or-treating options across Northern Colorado to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Fort Collins

The Fort Collins Downtown Development Authority presents its free Tiny Tot Halloween event every October, inviting preschool- and kindergarten-aged kids and their parents to trick-or-treat at participating downtown businesses. This year, the event is scheduled from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Halloween day. According to Jala Curtis, the Fort Collins DDA’s business marketing and communications program supervisor, Tiny Tot Halloween garners the highest level of participation from area businesses out of all the organization’s events.

“In addition to retailers and restaurants, this promotion attracts participation from service-based businesses, including financial institutions, real estate offices, insurance providers, gyms and others,” Curtis says.

The City of Fort Collins will once again host Treatsylvania, a non-spooky trick-or-treating event geared toward children ages 10 and under. This year, Treatsylvania is scheduled from 5-7 p.m., Oct. 25-27, with daytime openings scheduled from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. Held at The Farm at Lee Martinez Park, the event brings kids and families to see the farm animals, hang out in the barn, enjoy hayrides and walk down Trick-or-Treat Street to fill their bags with candy. Treatsylvania tickets cost $9 for kids ages 10 and under and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents and older kids attend for free and do not collect candy.

Greeley

Greeley offers two official trick-or-treating events every year, one hosted by the city and the other by the Downtown Development Authority.

The City of Greeley’s Howl-O-Ween Trick-or-Treat is scheduled from 2-6 p.m., Oct. 19-20, gathering kids to trick-or-treat inside the Centennial Village Museum. Admission is $4 per person (children ages 2 and under are free). Weather permitting, wagon rides will be available as well.

The DDA’s Trick-or-Treat Street is slated from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, on the 8th and 9th street plazas. Downtown businesses will hand out candy to kids in costume, and other participating businesses and sponsors will set up booths as well.

“There will also be lots of scary props for photo ops and free Halloween-themed kids’ crafts to enjoy,” says Daniela Hernandez, marketing and events coordinator for the Greeley DDA. “We look forward to seeing all of the creative costumes and watching the event grow every year.”

Windsor

The Windsor Downtown Alliance will hold its annual trick-or-treating event from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Participating businesses along Main Street between 4th and 7th streets will hand out candy and goodies. The Town of Windsor will host its Halloween Carnival the same day from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at Boardwalk Park. The Zombie Dash Fun Run will kick off the festivities at 11:30 a.m., and trick-or-treating is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

From 6-8 p.m. on Halloween night, the Windsor Police Department and Windsor Optimist Club will hold their Safe Halloween event at the Windsor Community Recreation Center. The free event is intended for children 12 and under and promises a good time with games and candy. Costumes aren’t required but are encouraged.

Beginning with Loveland Aleworks, located at 118 W. 4th St., businesses from Garfield Avenue to Washington Avenue between 3rd and 8th streets will pass out candy to children in Halloween costumes.

“This event is fun for all ages and gathers together our community members and downtown Loveland businesses,” says Josie Bjorklund, taproom manager and events coordinator at Loveland Aleworks. “It is so fun to see families dressed up in costumes and enjoying a walk around our wonderful downtown.”

The Loveland Police Department is also hosting a free Trunk-or-Treat event in partnership with Alternatives to Violence on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the police department parking lot, located at 810 E. 10th St. Kids can collect treats from participating businesses and enjoy games and activities at each stop.
