Spring Commitments

This year we have moved the annual wedding issue from our February magazine to March. Though a variety of factors influenced this decision, I find an issue focused on the beginnings of a life together matches well with the very first stirrings of spring.

I also enjoy this issue because along with it being beautiful to look at, it is a celebration of two people’s commitment to each other. This year, my husband and I will celebrate 25 years of wedded bliss, angst, struggle, elation and a whole bunch of other emotions that most people will recognize in their own marriages. But most of all, we are celebrating commitment. It takes determination to stick together through thick and thin. And once you are determined, a good sense of humor helps, too. And, after 25 years, I’d add the humility to admit you still don’t know as much you think.

I also see how much different and less formal weddings can be today, and I appreciate a generation of men and women choosing to celebrate their commitment in a way that best suits them. It is refreshing not to be too tied to the strictures of the past. Laurel Thompson, who is herself engaged, breaks down this year’s trends, and much of them seem more focused on embracing the day with family and friends than creating an ostentatious event.

I also enjoyed Jared Fiel’s article on men’s grooming. Let’s face it, the bathroom is no longer the realm of the female. Men have embraced looking and feeling good, and I rather like the facial hair trend. In fact, my husband spent a couple years sporting a curled mustache, which gained him some attention during that time.

So cheers to spring and all you brides and grooms out there—and to you who’ve triumphed through the ups and downs of your own commitments. Enjoy this beautiful magazine and the information it contains.

See you next month,

Angie Grenz
