The Fort Collins Symphony concludes its Season 69 musical odyssey with the Masterworks 5 concert, “Vienna to Fort Collins,” on Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Collins Lincoln Center. Under the direction of Maestro Wes Kenney, the performance features music composed by Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner.
The pre-concert events begin with the Friends of the Symphony’s Composer Talk by Dr. Dawn Grapes on Wednesday, May 8 at noon at the Old Town Public Library. The following evening, on Thursday, May 9 music lovers of all ages are invited to attend the Open Rehearsal from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Center. Both events are free of charge and open to the public.
The final concert ends the musical journey in Vienna where Johannes Brahms composed twenty-one Hungarian dances. The grand tour concludes with Symphony No. 5, described as a whirling “cathedral of sound,” Bruckner’s work takes the audience through various intense emotions, bold themes, heroic melodies, and dramatic orchestration. It’s a wild experience until the themes and fragments pull together in a rousing finale!
