The Fort Collins Symphony (FCS) invites you and your friends and family to the world premiere of VIBE! by Los Angeles composer Gregory Smith on Friday, January 18, at 7 p.m. at Timberline Church. Smith is a prolific composer for Walt Disney theme parks, CBS, ABC and ESPN. His family/educational symphonic works have enjoyed nearly 1,000 performances by more than 200 orchestras worldwide. He is known for his ability to disguise informational content with story, jokes, and audience participation.
VIBE! is narrated by the composer and performed by the FCS under the direction of Maestro Wes Kenney. This lighthearted musical guarantees a laugh as the audience journeys behind the scenes and explores the science of sound and how sound itself travels. Using various FCS orchestra instruments, he will demonstrate how sound is created including the speed and behavior of sound, how echoes work, and the significance of having two ears.
In addition to VIBE!, this family-friendly concert will feature Richard Strauss’ famous fanfare from Also Sprach Zarathustra, Morton Gould’s Windjammer Suite: The Ship, Igor Stravinsky’s Berceuse and Finale from his iconic ballet The Firebird, Eric Knight’s Three Musical Elements: Earth, Wind, Space, and a Beach Boys Medley.
Dr. Peter Springberg with additional support from the City of Fort Collins Fort Fund, NoCo Artists, Flood and Peterson, FAN Foundation, Griffin Foundation, Carol Ann Hixon Fund for Advancing Innovation and Imagination of the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, Kaiser Permanente, the Elizabeth Hotel, Paul Wood Florists, and the Poudre School District.
