Flood Protection Meets Community Space: Greeley’s preliminary Cache la Poudre River Vision Revealed

By: Staff

The City of Greeley will host a community meeting on Thursday, August 14, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Greeley Family FunPlex to share the initial Vision 2045 Concept for the Poudre River Restoration Initiative (PRRI) Master Plan and gather feedback from residents.

This vision will change the Poudre River in Greeley. It will reduce flood risk, restore natural wildlife areas, and create spaces for people to enjoy outdoor activities. The main goal is to proactively address flood risks while making the river a community anchor.

Project Focus Areas

  • Direct flood water safely to protect the city
  • Make the Poudre River the heart of our community and help local businesses
  • Bring back wildlife areas and natural river features
  • Make it easier for people to walk and bike to the river
  • Grow Greeley’s economy by making the river an attractive destination that brings in visitors and supports local businesses

This long-term, adaptable vision shows the city’s commitment to responsible planning for Greeley’s future. By asking for input from residents, businesses, and community groups now, the city can make sure the final plan works for all of Greeley. This initial concept was shaped with help from city staff, residents, and a steering committee with local leaders and river experts.

Why This Area Was Chosen

We chose the study area between Star Pond to the area east of Downtown Greeley because the river health is poor here. It is also close to downtown, which offers unique opportunities, including important connections to East Greeley. These factors will guide future planning to make sure the project helps everyone in the community.
