Exclusive, one-night-only film experience to feature screening and talk back with director Anders Lindwall
Head to Magic Rat in Fort Collins on Wednesday, June 18, for the second installment of the Magic Rat Film Showcase, a powerful night of film and conversation featuring a screening of “Green and Gold,” an award-winning feature based on true events set in the American heartland.
Written and directed by Fort Collins-based filmmaker Anders Lindwall, “Green and Gold” follows a struggling dairy farmer in 1993 Wisconsin who bets on the Green Bay Packers to save his family farm. The film, which earned Audience Choice Awards at both the Heartland International Film Festival and the Austin Film Festival, offers a refreshing, character-driven break from the spectacle of typical Hollywood fare. Following a national theatrical release in over 1,000 theaters across the U.S. and Canada, “Green and Gold” continues to capture hearts with its message of resilience, family and integrity.
“Among all the films I’ve had the privilege to be a part of, this one might be my favorite. The story aligns with truths that I’ve found in my life and ones that I want to impart to my kids, grandkids and great grandchildren,” says actor and “Green and Gold” star Craig T. Nelson.
Doors for the screening of “Green and Gold” will open at 6 p.m. for Happy Hour, followed by a 7 p.m. screening and talk back with Lindwall moderated by Maya Ortega and featuring never-seen-before clips along with behind-the-scenes footage.
“Growing up just north of Green Bay as the grandson of a dairy farmer and die-hard Packers fans, my brother Davin and I are overjoyed and overwhelmed by the nation-wide release of our movie. The story is a tribute to small-town communities and the values they stand for,” Lindwall says. “Living in Fort Collins now, we find a lot of the same type of small town charm that we grew up with. We’re excited for a special showcase with the Magic Rat to get a chance to dialogue about the process and celebrate with local audiences to rally more and more movies to be told from this area.”
Magic Rat Film Showcase tickets are $10 each and can be in advance at theelizabethcolorado.com/events/magic-rat-film-showcase.
A VIP After Party for “Green and Gold” will start at 8:30 p.m. in The Sunset Lounge at The Elizabeth, which requires an additional ticket.
The Magic Rat Film Showcase is a new ongoing event that serves as a platform for filmmakers from all walks of life to share their stories and deepen the relationship between art and community.
The next screening to be held on Wednesday, July 16, is a celebration of women in film. This event will feature Cassie LeFevre; Madison Santamaria, director of “Checkbox Other”; and Hannah Tran, director of “There’s a Lane For Us Here.” The evening will screen animated film “Checkbox Other,” which explores the complexities of biracial identity, as well as “There’s a Lane for Us Here,” which examines Denver’s Little Saigon, where Vietnamese and Southeast Asian refugees have worked tirelessly to preserve collective memory and identity. Together, these works delve into powerful and underrepresented narratives, offering unique perspectives on identity, history and storytelling in filmmaking.
