Free Admission Day at Global Village Museum Dec. 7

From 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, all visitors will enjoy free admission to the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. Ringing in the New: New Year Traditions Around the World in the museum’s main gallery highlights the rich diversity of customs and practices that mark the universal occasion of the New Year. In the hall gallery, Inmate Art from Larimer County Jail showcases the artwork of a group of inmates who express their emotions and creativity through drawing and painting.

The museum shop offers fabulous and affordable items for sale for all ages, and many of the unique items make excellent holiday gifts. Examples include items made in Kampala, Uganda, by moms to earn money to send their children to school. The women use their tailoring skills to make beautiful items—such as aprons, placemats and kitchen mitts—from Kitenge fabric, the vibrant colors and patterns of East Africa.

The museum shop also carries Christmas ornaments, gorgeous jewelry, elegant wooden spoons made in Guatemala, colorful pillow covers, handmade clothing accessories, kitchenware, pottery, computer bags, dolls and figurines, books, woven baskets and much more.

The Global Village Museum has four galleries, two rotating and two permanent. The rotating main gallery hosts three to four exhibitions per year, and the rotating hall gallery highlights local artists and organizations. The permanent galleries are Mundoville and John E. Roberts Village Arts. The former features international folk art as well as the world in miniature. The latter is home to world folk art, fine art and artifacts from Africa and Asia that were donated by local collectors and founding members.

The Global Village Museum is located at 200 W. Mountain Ave., and museum hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Regular admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, $1 for ages 4-12 and free for children 3 and under. Adult tours receive discounted admission of $3 per person.
