Aims Community Theater (ACT) invites audiences to experience “Lysistrata,” a classic comedy by Aristophanes. The play will be performed from Nov. 14-17, 2024, at the Ed Beaty Hall Theater on the Aims Community College Greeley Campus, 5203 W. 20th St.
The comedy follows the fierce and clever Lysistrata as she unites the women of Greece to end the Peloponnesian War. Their strategy? Withhold intimacy from their husbands until they agree to make peace. Through uproarious humor and sharp satire, “Lysistrata” delves into themes of power, gender dynamics and the absurdity of war. Despite its ancient roots, the story’s message about unity and the human cost of conflict remains strikingly relevant. Due to mature themes, “Lysistrata” is intended for adult audiences.
“We’re thrilled to present “Lysistrata,” a timeless and bold Greek comedy that resonates with today’s conversations about unity, resilience, the power of community and the strength of women,” says Aims Theater Director and Instructor Benjamin Kessler.
Set in a ’90s New York loft reminiscent of the sitcom, “Friends,” this production adds a modern twist to the ancient satire first performed in 411 BCE. The scenes are conveyed by the use of video and projection. This ACT performance features the acting and production talents of Aims students, alumni and community members.
