The Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant will celebrate 38 years with live entertainment, tequila tastings and giveaways from 4-11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at its original location in Fort Collins
In 1986, Fort Collins got a special gift: the first Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant. Thirty-eight years later, the infamous Rio remains, and the team will celebrate the restaurant’s anniversary in style at 143 W. Mountain Ave.
“When we first came up with the Rio, the goal was simple: create a great place to work, share good times and serve up the best Tex-Mex food and margaritas around,” says Pat McGaughran, founder and owner of the Rio. “Over the last 38 years, we’ve developed a Rio community that has become so much more than just a restaurant. I am delighted to be a part of this great endeavor to bring joy, delicious food and fun to our community.”
There is no fee to attend the anniversary party, and reservations can be made by calling the Rio Fort Collins at 970.224.5428. Partygoers will enjoy live music and a magic show on the patio as well as a tequila-tasting station with special tequilas and cocktails. There will also be an ongoing raffle for prizes such as tickets to the CU versus CSU football game, a tequila experience dinner and more.
