Voters will be asked to decide on measure 3F, a ballot initiative set to support the purchase of additional open space through the creation of a dedicated voter-approved sales tax for the Town of Windsor. The funds would give the Town an advantage to purchase land, preserve its wildlife, protect its natural wildlife habitat, expand its outdoor trails, promote working farms and reduce the impact of future congested traffic, road maintenance, wastewater and population growth.
“In the next ten years, our community is expected to grow by over 40% and increase our population by more than 17,000 people. Yes on 3F empowers our community to shift how we evolve and where we develop,” said Tom Jones, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and co-chair of Friends of Windsor Open Space. “Yes on 3F will allow Windsor to develop our trails, preserve our natural habitat, and expand our open space; ultimately, lessen the impacts of population growth and protect Windsor’s wildlife, water and way of life.”
Jones, former owner of the Windsor Veterinary Clinic, has been a longtime active member of the Windsor community, served on the Town Board for 24 years, and was elected as the Mayor from 1992-1996. “Windsor is more than a community; it’s our way of life,” said Jones. “Giving us access to connecting trails, mountain views, fresh air and small-family-oriented atmosphere.” Friends of Windsor Open Space has numerous events scheduled in the coming weeks. “We will be out in the community raising awareness about the importance of sales tax initiative 3F,” said Jones. “We’re going to make ourselves available to answer questions for voters.”
