Award-winning film and television producer named managing partner of professional sports for Windsor sports complex
Future Legends Complex announced that Mike Tollin, who co-founded Mandalay Sports Media with Peter Guber in 2012, has joined the organization as the managing partner for professional sports.
“Adding Mike to the Future Legends team will provide an enormous level of creativity, connectivity, and professionalism to our pro sports programming, media, and fan interaction,” said Jeff Katofsky, founder of Future Legends. “Mike takes us to a whole new level.”
“Raising two sports-minded kids, I’ve always been highly engaged in youth sports and the development of young, aspiring athletes,” said Tollin. “Working on this level with Future Legends, as well as with the young professional athletes on our baseball and soccer teams, is a dream come true for me. Not to mention a great opportunity for the development of sports media content.”
Tollin, a film and television producer and director, has won three Emmy Awards and two Peabody Awards, and has been nominated for an Academy Award. He was executive producer of The Last Dance, the Emmy-winning, 10-part series on Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls; and The Captain, a seven-part series on Derek Jeter, which is currently airing on ESPN.
In movies, Tollin directed Summer Catch, starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jessica Biel; and Radio, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. He produced Varsity Blues, Coach Carter, Dreamer, The Zookeeper’s Wife, and Wild Hogs. His TV credits include Smallville, One Tree Hill, Arli$$, and The Bronx is Burning; along with documentaries on Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Allen Iverson, and Hank Aaron, which was nominated for an Oscar for best documentary.
Tollin is also a founding board member of Common Sense Media and Children Now, two groups that focus on kids and media; and the Chasing the Dream Foundation, which awards scholarships to underprivileged youth. He is also the founder of PACE, an organization that identifies and devotes resources to under-served children and families.
Windsor’s 118-acre Future Legends Complex will feature 6,500-seat TicketSmarter Stadium, 2,500-seat Future Legends Field, multiple baseball diamonds and multi-purpose fields, an indoor sports arena, lodging, and retail; and will host guests for major youth sports tournaments, events, leagues, and more.
It will also be the home of Northern Colorado’s professional soccer and baseball teams: USL League One’s Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, and the Pioneer League Presented by TicketSmarter’s Northern Colorado Owlz.
