Blues Traveler returned to Red Rocks Amphitheatre after a year long hiatus to carry on their July 4th performance, a tradition that started in 1994. The welcoming crowd was excited to be together with friends and family. John Popper, lead singer and harmonica honcho, took a minute to say “hello” and welcome everyone. The band held nothing back as they gave a pent up performance of a lifetime. They simply rocked the natural habitat to the core with popular hits from their long and diverse catalog. They very fittingly included the Star Spangled Banner for the eighth song followed by Mary Jane’s Last Dance by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers two songs later. Overall the set was full of improvisational jams with lots of boneshaking from the guests. Special guest, live music painter Scramble Campbell was on hand providing his on the spot artistic rendering of the show.
