Dan Muffly, who recently retired as a partner from the Northern Colorado law firm Johnson Dauster & Thorson, has been honored with the Annual Larimer County Bar Association Professionalism Award. The legal community gathered April 22 to celebrate the achievement and recognize his decades of dedicated service to the community and the practice of law.

The Professionalism Award is given once a year by the Larimer County Bar Association. It is specifically designed to recognize attorneys who exemplify adherence to high standards of ethics and professionalism. They must demonstrate positive involvement in the legal profession, be courteous and prompt in conducting business, perform pro bono public service in the community, be committed to improving the legal profession and, when representing clients, render advice that considers not only the law but also moral, economic, social and political factors relevant to the situation. Recipients are selected by their peers. Muffly’s award underscores the profound respect he has earned from fellow practitioners and judges.

During his long tenure at Johnson Dauster & Thorson and earlier with Harden Hass Haag & Hallberg, Muffly established a reputation as a leader of the local legal community. He approached every case with a deep respect for the rule of law and a genuine dedication to his clients. Beyond his individual casework, he served as a trusted mentor to younger attorneys, instilling the same values of ethical advocacy and professional courtesy that defined his own practice. He also served on numerous nonprofit boards and taught many employment law seminars in the area. He served on the Larimer County Bar Association’s executive board, was president of that board, served on the Colorado Board of Governors and was a member of its executive board and is a bar fellow of the Colorado Bar Association.

His recent retirement marks the conclusion of an exceptional career, leaving behind a legacy of excellence at his firm and throughout Northern Colorado.
