Cookbook signing and farm experience to celebrate seasonal cooking, backyard chickens and fresh ingredients

Lisa Steele, bestselling cookbook author, fifth-generation chicken keeper and host of the American Public Television/CreateTV series “Welcome to My Farm,” will visit Fort Collins May 17-18 for two special events celebrating the release of her newest cookbook, “In Season: 125+ Sweet and Savory Recipes Celebrating Simple, Fresh Ingredients” (Harper Celebrate, $35). Hosted by Ginger and Baker in partnership with Old Firehouse Books, the events will give guests the opportunity to meet Steele, enjoy seasonal recipes from the cookbook and hear firsthand about her approach to cooking with fresh, peak-season ingredients.

From 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, guests are invited to a cookbook signing and conversation in the Milltop at Ginger and Baker. Steele will join Ginger Graham for a discussion about the inspiration behind “In Season,” her life on her Maine farm and her nearly two decades of sharing recipes and chicken-keeping expertise. The evening will also include a Q&A covering topics ranging from blogging and backyard chickens to the benefits of seasonal cooking. Attendees will enjoy tastings inspired by recipes from the cookbook, including Blackberry Shrub, Caesar Deviled Eggs, Avocado Goat Cheese Salad and Pistachio Pudding.

From 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Monday, May 18, Steele will host a second event at Graham’s farm, offering guests an immersive outdoor experience focused on seasonal living, gardening and raising chickens. The morning gathering will feature a live Q&A, recipe tastings from “In Season,” a tour of the gardens and an opportunity to meet Graham’s flock of chickens. Guests can also browse chicken-raising supplies from Northern Colorado Feeders Supply. Featured cookbook menu items for the farm event include Green Goddess Deviled Eggs, Tomato Tarts and Strawberry Basil Lemonade.

Known for her warm and approachable cooking style, Steele’s newest cookbook celebrates ingredient-forward recipes designed to make seasonal cooking feel simple, elegant and accessible. Influenced by her Scandinavian roots and life on her Maine farm, “In Season” features more than 125 recipes ranging from colorful salads and vibrant vegetable dishes to cozy soups, desserts, cocktails and her signature egg-based recipes.

Tickets for both events are available through Ginger and Baker. Admission is $80 with a copy of “In Season” included, or $40 without a book.
