Big news for regional transit riders: The City of Loveland Transportation (COLT) is expanding service with three brand-new bus stops in the Town of Johnstown near the Johnstown Plaza Shopping Center. Beginning Monday, Dec. 29, community members will have even more convenient ways to get where they need to go in Northern Colorado.
The service schedule will be as follows:
- Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Thompson Parkway
- Serviced at :06 and :38 each hour from 7:06 a.m.-7:38 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:06 a.m.-5:38 p.m. Saturday.
- Trade Street and Ronald Reagan Boulevard
- Serviced at :07 and :39 each hour. For example, 8:07 a.m. and 8:39 a.m.
- Union Street and Larimer Parkway
- Serviced at :08 and :40 each hour. For example, 8:08 a.m. and 8:40 a.m.
“Expanding COLT service to Johnstown—with funding from the Town of Johnstown—marks a major step toward a more connected and collaborative transit future. This is just the beginning of a broader vision for integrated, community-driven transit,” says Candice Folkers, transit manager for the City of Loveland.
“We’re excited to bring this new level of connectivity to our residents and businesses,” says Tim Hoos, public works director for the Town of Johnstown. “Partnering with COLT allows us to offer safer, more reliable transit options that support our growing community and strengthen regional mobility for years to come.”
While planning the upcoming regional Greeley to Loveland route, no safe locations were found for stops along U.S. 34. Because of this, COLT determined that offering local transit to connect residents between Johnstown and the Centerra Loveland Mobility Hub (HUB) would be a safer and more effective option. This new service will improve regional connectivity and give residents in both communities better access to jobs, schools, medical facilities, shopping and entertainment, helping reduce traffic congestion and providing a safer, more reliable transit choice.
The new stops will be on Route 7 making trips to Johnstown and the HUB. Route 7 will provide 30-minute service to the Promenade Shopping Center and Johnstown Shopping Center areas, with convenient connections to and from Route 3 into downtown Loveland. Riders will also have access to five daily connections to the Poudre Express route at U.S. 392 and Westgate and 60-minute service to The Ranch Events Complex.
Project funding
The new stops in Johnstown were funded by the Town of Johnstown. This funding covers both the construction of the stops and the cost of the route extension and associated service. The Town of Johnstown has entered into a one-year agreement with the City of Loveland to fund the three new stops. At the end of the first year, the town and city will review the service and identify the best path forward to support community mobility.
