Reel in the Big One at the Annual City of Greeley Fishing Derby

By: Staff

Adults and youth surround Sanborn Lake for the Annual Fishing Derby in Greeley.

The annual City of Greeley Fishing Derby will be held from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 7, at Sanborn Park, 2031 28th Ave. This family-friendly event is free and open to ages five and older. Participants should bring their pole and tackle and can surround the lake at Sanborn Park to fish. Since it is Colorado’s free fishing weekend, fishing licenses are not required.

Look for the blue Greeley Recreation tent set up by the playground on the day of the event. Be sure to sign up beginning at 7:30 a.m. for the giveaway drawings held every half hour throughout the morning. Many thanks to the Danny Juarez Memorial Foundation for sponsoring the fishing derby.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife will stock the lake in advance with fresh trout, providing ample opportunities to catch fish. Visitors are encouraged to show up early to find the perfect fishing spot and compete to catch the biggest fish.
