Platte River Names Mark Weiss as New Chief Technology Officer

Following a nationwide recruitment process, Platte River Power Authority (Platte River) recently hired Mark Weiss to serve as chief technology officer (CTO). The new position addresses skills and leadership needs as Platte River continues to make progress on its energy transition goals highlighted in the Resource Diversification Policy.

“Mark joins us with extensive experience working for both public and investor-owned utilities. His unique perspective working for both wholesale and retail electric utilities will be invaluable as we work with our owner communities to implement distributed energy resources,” says Jason Frisbie, general manager and CEO of Platte River. “I am pleased to welcome Mark to our senior leadership team and look forward to working with him as we work to achieve Platte River’s goals.”

Mark has been in the technology industry for the duration of his career and he joins Platte River with more than a decade of service in executive technology leadership in the utility industry. He most recently served as the chief information and technology officer at Tri-State Generation and Transmission, Inc. In that role, he led the information technology, operational technology and cybersecurity functions for the organization.

“Building a robust project management process and strong operational technology for Platte River will be a main focus for me in this role,” Weiss says. “I am dedicated to collaborating with our owner communities to implement technology solutions as we continue to partner on the integration of a virtual power plant and make progress together on the energy transition.”

This is a new role on Platte River’s senior leadership team, following recent restructuring to address specific leadership needs as the organization continues to make forward progress transitioning its energy portfolio and supporting the energy goals of the owner communities outlined in the Resource Diversification Policy.
