The City of Fort Collins is proud to announce that its Digital Inclusion Program has been named a 2024 Digital Inclusion Trailblazer by the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA). This prestigious recognition highlights the city’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and fostering equitable access to technology for all residents.
Fort Collins joins a record number of Trailblazers this year, representing municipal, county and regional governments across the nation. The program sets a high standard for digital inclusion through initiatives that provide affordable high-speed internet access, digital devices and skills training to empower community members to navigate an increasingly digital world.
“Fort Collins is dedicated to ensuring that everyone in our community has the tools and skills they need to thrive in today’s interconnected society,” says City of Fort Collins Equity & Inclusion Officer Claudia Menendez. “From students and families to small businesses and older adults, our Digital Inclusion Program is paving the way for greater opportunities and a more inclusive future.”
Fort Collins earned Trailblazer status through key initiatives aimed at reducing digital inequalities and increasing digital fluency. For example, the City’s Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) funding supports digital skills programs and community grants, fostering partnerships with local libraries, schools and community organizations. This investment strengthens a robust digital equity ecosystem, ensuring residents have access to essential technological resources. Additionally, the city’s dedicated digital inclusion specialist, who brings expertise in digital literacy and bilingual support, helps bridge language barriers and expand access for Spanish-speaking residents.
“The local governments recognized as Trailblazers are leading the way in building digital inclusion ecosystems that empower their communities,” says Angela Siefer, executive director of the NDIA. “Their efforts serve as a model for communities across the nation.”
