Free Tax Assistance and E-filing at Aims Community College Begins in February

Aims Community College offers free tax preparation and e-filing assistance through the Tax Help Colorado program. Individuals and households that made less than $67,000 annually in 2024 can participate at no cost and receive help from IRS-certified Aims students and community volunteers.

No appointment is required. Sites are operated on a first-come, first-served basis. There are three Aims locations ready to assist you:

Loveland Campus
4:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Feb. 6-March 6

Fort Lupton Campus – Prairie Building
9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Fridays from Feb. 7-March 7

Greeley Campus – Cornerstone Building
9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays from Feb. 8-April 12 (closed March 15-22)

Participants should bring the following documents to the tax preparation events:

  • All W-2s, 1099s and other income-related documents.
  • Mortgage interest, daycare payments, college education expenses, charitable contributions and all other tax-deductible expenses.
  • Social Security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) documents for all family members and taxpayer photo ID.
  • Bank account number and routing number to direct deposit refunds.
  • A copy of last year’s tax return, if available.

In addition to providing community tax preparation services, this opportunity gives Aims students looking for careers in accounting and bookkeeping more training and experience before entering the workforce. Each fall, Aims students who volunteer with the program take a course that covers fundamental law and tax preparation. Students then take an IRS VITA exam that certifies them to prepare tax returns. They are then ready to assist the community with tax preparation in the spring.

Last year, Aims assisted 1,629 taxpayers and helped them receive more than $4.1 million in federal and state refunds. Volunteers contributed 1,876 hours to the project in 2024. The Aims program has a 98 percent accuracy rate. Learn more at aims.co/tax-help.
