Storm Safety Tips: How to Prepare for Bitter Cold

Protect yourself and your home from dangerous winter weather and bitter cold with these guidelines.

  • Avoid unnecessary travel and outdoor activities. If you need to go outside, dress in layers and prepare your vehicle with an emergency kit and supplies.
  • Bring pets inside and move outdoor animals, including livestock, to sheltered areas.
  • Heat your home safely. Never use an oven or gas stovetop to heat your home.
  • Minimize the risk of frozen pipes by leaving faucets running at a trickle, leaving cabinet doors open and closing all doors and windows to keep heat inside.

The City of Greeley’s top priority during the storm is residents’ safety. In an emergency, dial 911 for help.
