Celebrate Black American Culture with a Dynamic Array of Events

This February, join in honoring a month of Black American culture with an inspiring lineup of events designed to celebrate culture, creativity, innovation and community. Hosted by Louise Cutler Studio, in partnership with local organizations and supported by a grant from Creative West, these events aim to uplift and showcase the contributions of Black American artists, engineers and creatives.

“Engineer a World of Difference” – National Society of Black Engineers Event

Kicking off the month is “Engineer a World of Difference” hosted by the National Society of Black Engineers at the Foothills Mall. This event offers hands-on activities, workshops and opportunities to hear from future engineers shaping tomorrow’s world while exploring exciting college programs.

Freedom of Expression Workshop with Chavez of Efilaf Art Department

Chavez of Efilaf Art Department will lead a Freedom of Expression Workshop, encouraging participants to explore their individuality and creativity. Chavez’s transformative art and fashion will be on exhibit at the Foothills Mall, celebrating resilience and self-expression. Materials will be provided.

Proud to Be Me Painting Workshop with Jasmine Henley

Location: Foothills Mall
Date: Saturday, Feb. 15
Time: 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Jasmine Henley takes the spotlight with the Proud to Be Me painting workshop, inviting participants of all skill levels to create self portraits that celebrate identity and self-love. Materials will be provided for this hands-on session of creativity and connection.

Table Reading of “A Raisin in the Sun”

Location: Museum of Art Fort Collins
Date: First Friday, Feb. 7
Time: 6-8 p.m.

Head to the Museum of Art Fort Collins for a table reading of “A Raisin in the Sun” during First Friday in February. This community event brings Lorraine Hansberry’s iconic play to life, celebrating dreams and resilience through a collaborative reading.

Artist Spotlight: Chavez of Efilaf Art Department

Throughout February, the Foothills Mall will feature a stunning exhibit by Chavez of Efilaf Art Department, showcasing his transformative art and fashion rooted in the philosophy, “For All Living in a Fragile Environment.” Chavez’s work celebrates resilience and self-expression while challenging societal norms. On Feb. 8, he will also lead a Freedom of Expression Workshop encouraging participants to unleash their creativity and individuality.
