The Fort Collins Symphony (FCS) and the Friends of the Symphony (FoS) invite music lovers of all ages to a fun-filled family concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, at the Fort Collins’ Lincoln Center. Under the baton of Maestro Wes Kenney, the Symphony will present Lucas Richman’s Be a Conductor, Gregory Smith’s Zoo Song, and Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, featuring dancers from Canyon Concert Ballet (CCB). Composer Gregory Smith will serve as the concert narrator.
The program kicks off with Grammy-award winning composer and conductor Lucas Richman’s Be a Conductor. This vibrant and interactive work that teaches audience members how to conduct an orchestra.
Composer Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf is a symphonic fairy tale, composed in 1936. The music introduces children to orchestral instruments while promoting bravery and resourcefulness. This enchanting piece, narrated by Gregory Smith and accompanied by dancers from CCB, will delight audiences of all ages with its timeless story.
Composer Gregory Smith’s Zoo Song tells the story of a young girl’s zoo adventure as she searches for the source of a captivating sound. Along the way, she encounters various animals, each depicted through music. The piece, commissioned by the Colorado Symphony and the Denver Zoo, concludes with the revelation of the elusive sound’s source.
