Compost Queen Launches Food Waste Collection at The Well In Wellington

Compost Queen and The Well In Wellington partner to bring public food waste drop-off site to Wellington

Compost Queen, Fort Collins’ leading food waste composting service, is proud to announce its new partnership with The Well In Wellington, the sister business and tasting room for Grouse Malt House. This collaboration, which officially launched on Nov. 12, 2024, brings Wellington’s first food waste drop-off site, making it easier than ever for residents to compost and contribute to environmental sustainability.

Kickoff Event

To celebrate the launch, Compost Queen will host a kickoff event at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at The Well In Wellington. Attendees who sign up for food recycling services at the event will receive a complimentary beverage courtesy of Compost Queen. Additionally, Compost Queen will offer one new member three months of free drop-off service at the Wellington location.

A Community Commitment to Sustainability

Grouse Malt House supports responsible organics management and sustainability within their restored 102-year-old grain elevator, where they craft malt from millet and other naturally gluten-free grains and seeds. The Well In Wellington opened in the fall of this year and is a dedicated gluten-free tasting room and gathering space.

“The Well’s commitment to responsible organics management makes them a leader in sustainable practices for malt houses and tasting rooms in Northern Colorado,” says Jamie Blanchard-Poling, founder and “chief queen officer” of Compost Queen.

How It Works

Compost Queen members can collect food waste at home and bring it to the secured storage container located in The Well’s parking lot. By signing up on Compost Queen’s website, members will receive the access code to the lock, allowing them to drop off food waste at their convenience. Twice a year, members are invited to special appreciation events where they can drop off yard and leaf waste free of charge and receive a complimentary compost share.

Building Community Resilience with Every Drop-Off

Compost Queen accepts all food waste, including meat, dairy, bones and produce scraps. However, they cannot accept compostable packaging, manure or animal casualties. The partnership with The Well is one of 10 new drop sites Compost Queen plans to establish across Northern Colorado in the coming months as part of its mission to build community resilience and advance sustainable practices in Larimer County.
