Pretty Brainy is partnering with Model Mugging to offer self-defense training to females ages 16 and up from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20. This self-defense training class weekend is a comprehensive program based on 45 years of extensive applied research and is organized on the Five Principles of Self Defense. Participants will:
- Learn how to fight a real assailant (an attacking, padded Model Mugging instructor who you will strike with your full force).
- Set boundaries so others heed and respect the line you draw.
- De-escalate conflict.
- Disrupt and stop bullying.
- Identify the ploys and tactics predators use to target and manipulate.
- Resolve past trauma.
- Emerge with greater self-esteem, personal safety and the know-how to defend and protect your most valuable asset: your own strong, smart self.
Award-winning nonprofit Pretty Brainy empowers girls to gain STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art/design and math) so they are equipped to develop their abilities and make a positive difference in the world. Girls and women knowing how to defend themselves is an issue of STEAM access, and thanks to our sponsors, including the Women in Science Network at Colorado State University, Pretty Brainy is bringing top self-defense trainers to Fort Collins (location announced after registration). Register here. Scholarships are available.
A one-day class for 12- to 15-year-old girls will also be held in spring 2025. To learn more about Pretty Brainy, subscribe to the organization’s eNews publication.
