The Gardens on Spring Creek Unveils Origami-inspired Sculpture Exhibit

An announcement for The Gardens on Spring Greek's ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN, hosted from June 1-Nov. 3, 2024, in Fort Collins, CO.

The Gardens on Spring Creek (The Gardens) announces the arrival of a monumental outdoor traveling sculpture exhibition, ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN, opening June 1, 2024, that will be on display through Nov. 3. Gardens members receive a sneak peek on May 30 at an exclusive member preview night event.

Origami means “folding paper” in Japanese. ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN is a custom traveling sculpture exhibition created by Santa Fe artists Jennifer and Kevin Box that captures the delicate nature of this paper art form in museum-quality metals. The exhibition features Kevin Box’s own larger-than-life compositions as well as collaborations with world-renowned origami artists Te Jui Fu, Beth Johnson, Michael G. LaFosse and Robert J. Lang.

According to Box, “Origami presents a simple metaphor: When we begin with a blank page, what we do with it is up to us, and the possibilities are endless.”

The Gardens’ show features 13 gravity-defying sculptures, including flying birds, emerging butterflies, floating boats and soaring paper airplanes that will be placed throughout 12 acres of exquisitely curated botanic gardens.

Experiencing the exhibition will be included with admission. All sculptures feature interpretive signage as well as a complimentary cell phone audio tour in which guests can gain additional insight about the pieces from the artists themselves through audio recordings.

Jennifer and Kevin Box created the exhibit in 2013. It was first displayed at the Santa Fe Botanical Garden in 2014. Since then, the exhibition has inspired visitors at botanical gardens across the country, including the California Botanic Garden in Los Angeles, the Tucson Botanical Gardens, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Virginia and the Memphis Botanic Garden.
