Greeley celebrates 44th Annual Arbor Day as Designated Tree City with the National Arbor Day Foundation

For 44 consecutive years, the National Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Greeley with a Tree City USA designation. This designation demonstrates Greeley’s commitment to environmental stewardship and urban forestry, making the city a beautiful and healthy place to live and work.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

Greeley’s commitment to urban forestry is evident through various program offerings for tree planting and health. Greeley’s Share the Shade program promotes tree planting in neighborhoods, and the Emerald Ash Borer Residential Treatment program protects residents’ trees against the invasive pest. These programs and the ongoing management of Greeley’s trees earn Greeley the Tree City USA honor.

2024 Arbor Day Event

Greeley’s Forestry Division invites the community to contribute to our city’s canopy by planting trees:

  • Date: Saturday, April 27, 2024
  • Time: 9-10 a.m.
  • Location: Sanborn Park playground, 28th Avenue and 28th Avenue Court
  • This event is free and open to the public.

“Trees are assets to a community when properly planted and maintained,” says Forestry Manager Shiloh Hatcher. “They help improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants, and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.”
