Local High School Students to Compete in Live Stock Market Simulation

JA Stock Market Challenge Teaches Students Fundamentals of Stocks, Trading and Investing

Hundreds of local high school students will participate in the Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain (JA) Stock Market Challenge, a hands-on, high-tech and immersive simulation that introduces students to the fundamentals of stocks, the impact of world events on the stock market, long-term investing and how investors make decisions and diversify their portfolios.

WHO: Approximately 500 local high school students from Northern Colorado and Wyoming.

WHAT: After completing classroom programs that teach youth about the role of the stock market in the economy, investing and how to be financially responsible, students get to apply what they learned by competing in the JA Stock Market Challenge. Teams of high school students compete in a live stock market simulation to see who can grow their initial $500,000 investment into the largest net worth mock stock portfolio. Every 60 seconds in real life equates to one full day of trading, creating the same urgency and intensity investors would have on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. The top three winning teams are awarded trophies and are recognized in media publications. JA Stock Market Challenge sponsors, including Independent Financial and Soukup, Bush & Associates enable JA to provide the student event to participating schools at no cost. The event is also supported by a corporate fundraising version of the JA Stock Market Challenge, which will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 6-10 p.m. at The Drake Centre in Fort Collins.

WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 9, from 9-11 a.m. and 12-2 p.m.

WHERE: The Drake Centre, 802 W. Drake Rd., Fort Collins, CO 80526
