Museum of Art Fort Collins Presents “Night at the Museum: A MoA Mystery Fundraiser”

Embrace the thrill of a Halloween weekend like never before, as the Museum of Art Fort Collins (MoA) invites you to a captivating and unforgettable experience. Mark your calendars for October 28, 2023, as MoA presents “Night at the Museum: A MoA Mystery Fundraiser,” a night of intrigue, elegance, and a touch of mischief. Step away from the ordinary galas and immerse yourself in an evening that promises to be truly exceptional. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to explore one of Fort Collins’ most historic – and perhaps slightly haunted – buildings while embarking on a mysterious adventure. Imagine yourself as a detective, adorned in glamorous attire, seeking to unravel a perplexing crime.

2023 holds special significance for MoA as it celebrates its 40th anniversary and marks a pivotal moment in its history. In May 2022, the museum secured the majority of the building, a significant step toward securing its future. With this substantial investment, MoA is poised to continue its role as a guardian of this historic landmark, ensuring its adaptability to the ever-evolving needs of the city.

Celebrating in Style

The “Night at the Museum” event will not only raise vital funds for the building but also serve as a celebration of MoA’s 40th anniversary and a tribute to the visionaries who shaped its history. Beginning with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m., the mystery event unfolds from 7 to 9 p.m. on October 28. This year, attendees will have the chance to channel their inner sleuths while donning their most glamorous costumes. The event’s storyline centers around the grand unveiling of the “Ocean Diamond,” a priceless gem that mysteriously vanishes before guests’ eyes. The challenge is clear: solve the baffling crime and restore the Ocean Diamond to its rightful place. What sets this event apart is the immersive experience it offers. Actors will play pivotal roles in the storyline, allowing attendees to interact with them, and receiving play money to aid in solving the mystery. Moreover, guests can explore the building’s hidden corners, adding the thrill of searching for

George the Ghost, an intriguing part of the building’s lore. The evening will feature numerous activities throughout the building, including temporary tattoos to enhance the Halloween fun.

A Celebration of Community and Art

Yet, “Night at the Museum” isn’t just about solving a mystery; it’s an opportunity to embrace Fort Collins’ vibrant artistic community. An exhibition by Louisville, CO artist Terry Maker is set to open on October 27, featuring beautiful abstract wall reliefs, prints, and paintings that offer a unique perspective on materiality and spirituality.

All of this aligns with MoA’s commitment to making art accessible through their “MoA for All” initiative. Beyond exhibitions, MoA seeks to create a sense of belonging, educating the community about the power of art and breaking down barriers to access. Supported by a generous grant from the Bohemian Foundation, “MoA for All” actively seeks community support through grants, donations, sponsorships, and scholarships, ensuring that art remains an integral part of daily life in Fort Collins.

“We’re looking ahead to the next 40 years,” explains Lisa Hatchadoorian, Executive Director, Internal Affairs. “We’ve invested in this building to maintain its status as a landmark deserving of the city and as a cultural institution. And that’s why we need people to come. They need to celebrate—celebrate our 40 years and celebrate the purchase of this building that has played a pivotal role in making Fort Collins the city it is today.”
