Loveland high school student on track to raise $100,000 for pediatric cancer research before graduation
Loveland high schooler, Daniela Ortiz, is on a mission to raise $100,000 for pediatric cancer research before she graduates high school. She’s currently entering her sophomore year.
Ortiz is kicking off the school year with her 8th annual charity bake sale fundraiser this September—Childhood Cancer Awareness Month—where she’ll sell her Galaxy Cookies to raise awareness and funds for the 400,000 children who develop cancer each year. Galaxy Cookies is a fundraiser with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, the nonprofit dedicated to funding the research of new, improved and less toxic pediatric cancer treatments.
To date, Ortiz has raised $78,000. Her goal this year is to raise $30,000 in an effort to exceed $100,000, which is the amount needed to fund a research grant.
Ortiz has been baking cookies for childhood cancer research out of the kindness of her heart for nearly a decade. However, four years ago, her perspective drastically changed when her mother was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She is now more motivated than ever to raise enough money to fund the grant.
The aspiring NASA engineer will hold the 2023 Galaxy Cookies bake sale Sunday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m at 4195 Lyric Falls Court in Loveland. If you are not able to visit the bake sale, consider donating via the website.
