Remembering the 2013 Flood

Remembering the 2013 Flood: Ten Years Later at the Loveland Museum

Beginning on Saturday, July 29, the 2013 Flood Images exhibition will be on view in the Mezzanine Gallery of the Loveland Museum. This exhibition will showcase photography from the tragic 2013 floods and the impacts they had on Northern Colorado.

After a week of extremely hot weather, a steady, light rain began September 9, 2013, and became widespread and persistent rain along the Front Range, lasting until September 16. This historic 2013 flood produced a year’s worth of rain in a week in some areas, resulting in one of the state’s worst natural disasters. As in 1976, the narrow Big Thompson Canyon took a heavy hit. Sections of U.S. 34 between Loveland and Estes Park were washed away or terribly damaged.

This exhibit includes just a small fraction of the thousands of photographs taken from this historic event. The exhibit will offer free admission and the Museum will host a public opening reception on Friday, August 11, from 6-8 p.m. during the August Night on the Town event.
