The right location, the right views and the right layout were what Ryan and Lauren Lendrum found with their Brunner Farms home in Timnath.
The right look and feel for the young couple with two toddler boys, was a little more elusive. Despite checking many boxes for the young family, “it was not our dream home on the inside,” says Lauren of the home they bought last year. The 6,000 sq. ft. home was built in 2019, but for the Lendrums, it was just very builder-grade basic white.
Her husband was familiar with the work of Michael and Shavonn Janes, of Solace Custom Homes, through his work as a lender, and they wanted Solace to do their remodel. When the Janes initially said they weren’t doing remodels, the Lendrums scaled back their vision and were ready to just dig into some cosmetic fixes.
But Shavonn encouraged Michael to give it a try, and when Lauren and Ryan got word, they upped their remodel plans to include a new kitchen, dining room, master bath, powder room, basement bath, mud room and living room fireplace.
The Janes then enlisted Ashley Underwood with Rebel Designs to partner with them on the project and take the homeowners’ vision to a whole new level. The project took five and a half months to complete. The home’s style went from “very traditional white,” according to Underwood, “to a modern Scandinavian style with moody accents and organic elements.”
Lauren couldn’t be happier. “It was fun to see the vision come to life and see them take our ‘safe’ ideas and turn them into real ‘wow’ features in our home,” she says. This bolder look incorporated darker elements in the home but still left it feeling very open.
Highlights of the home include the moody kitchen with wood slat ceiling, Venetian plaster fireplace, tons of glass everywhere, including the stair railing, and new statement lighting.
For the Janes, especially Michael, the project was a pleasant surprise. “It turned out to be a fun adventure,” says Michael. “I really enjoyed watching everyone’s vision come together.” In fact, he says, he may be open to more remodels in the future.
