Bug Banquet to Benefit Farms for Orphans

Yup! You read that right, a bug banquet is exactly what is sounds like…gourmet insects for your adventurous taste-buds! The “Bug Banquet to Benefit Farms for Orphans” is on Sunday, February, 24 from 5-8 p.m. The Welsh Rabbit Bistro and Cheese Shop in Fort Collins offers a unique culinary experience benefiting the nonprofit organization Farms for Orphans, Inc. (FFO).

The Welsh Rabbit’s owner, Chef Nate, has created a scrumptious five course insect-based meal that will be paired with wines and spirits.  Edible insects will be provided by Colorado’s first and only edible insect farm, Rocky Mountain Micro Ranch.

Based in Loveland, Colorado FFO provides training and resources in edible insect farming to vulnerable youth in countries where the consumption of insects is a culturally favorable practice, providing these youth with a sustainable source of protein and economic opportunities. They are currently training orphanages and street youth in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to farm palm weevil larvae, a popular, typically wild-caught food source throughout the Congo Basin.
