The new year kicked off for many hardy locals in a memorable-but-chilly fashion. The seventh annual Polar Bear Run and Plunge provided more than 600 runners and walkers with a scenic 5K or 1-mile course before about 400 of them plunged into the 35-degree water beneath the freshly cut ice on Horsetooth Reservoir. Plenty of supporters cheered on their friends and relatives, while members of the Larimer County Dive Rescue Team waited in the water with high-fives for exuberant plungers, and aid if needed. Proceeds from the event benefit the LCDRT and its mission to rescue or recover people and property involved in water-related accidents.
