Join the Aims Graphic Design & Rich Media program for a showcase of student film and animation.
This event is free to the public and located in the Ed Beaty Hall Theater, 5203 W. 20th Street, on the Greeley Campus. A Friday night presentation will occur from 6-8 p.m. on April 19. The same program runs on April 20 from 1-3 p.m. for a Saturday afternoon matinee. This showcase’s importance is allowing students to share their work and be recognized for their effort in their film and animation projects.
Animation at Aims
This showcase is a celebration of 20 years of animation at Aims. Graphic Design & Rich Media Professor Brian Dunning is proud to present this program to the community and prospective students.
In animation classes, students work as a team on different aspects of a project. “Some people are character designers; others are doing backgrounds or props,” he said. Another group of students works on elements like sound or editing. With all this work, Dunning estimates that it takes the class about a month to do ten seconds of animation.
Matthew Taylor is completing an Associate of Applied Science in Animation this semester. You can see some of his animation and visual effects projects at the event. “There are a lot of passionate and talented people in the program,” Taylor said. “These people could be making some of your favorite shows in the future.”
Another graduating animation student participating in the showcase is Azi Stiles. “I’m excited for this,” she said. “It brings us together to look and laugh and feel things. I hope that my work can express something to someone. Whether to make them laugh or feel that it’s good or crazy.”
Film and Video Production
The showcase will also present student film and video projects. The audience can expect to see a variety of genres, from comedy, action, drama and even suspenseful films. A couple more mature theme films will be screened at the end of the showcase.
“Each film is unique and they all resonate with me in different ways, said Communication Media Instructor Eric Taylor. “It’s amazing to see what the students can create with the tools and skills you provide them and then make the project their own.”
The Aims Communication Media department offers degrees and certificates in journalism, audio production, television/video production, video editing/effects, radio production, and media writing. Projects in the showcases come from work produced in classes such as TV production, video editing and more.
