Visitors are invited to experience “The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self” in a deeper and more personal way during a special artist talk from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Foothills Mall in Fort Collins. Presented by Louise Cutler Studio as part of Art Takeover the Foothills Mall, this free public event offers an opportunity to meet several of the exhibiting artists and hear firsthand about the inspiration, techniques and personal stories behind their work.
Featuring assemblage and installation art, “The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self” transforms everyday and found objects into thought-provoking works that explore identity, memory, transformation, the natural world and the human experience. By presenting contemporary art in the unexpected setting of a shopping mall, the exhibition removes traditional barriers and invites the community to encounter art as part of everyday life.
During the artist talk, visitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with participating artists, ask questions and gain insight into the creative process behind the artworks. Conversations will explore how ordinary materials become extraordinary expressions of meaning and how each artist approaches storytelling through found objects and installation. Participating artists include Annemarie Baldauf, Enjoli Barth, Laine Greaves-Smith, Emily Grove, Gay Houghtaling, Donna Northington, Diane Holland Rickerl, Melissa Pape, Louise Cutler, Anne Emmons, James Dixson and Tierra Lalk.
The exhibition features a wide range of artistic voices and approaches, including acclaimed sculptor James Dixson, whose bronze sculptures are included in numerous public and private collections throughout the U.S. His work can be found in the Black American West Museum in Denver and in the collections of notable figures including Patti LaBelle, Ashford & Simpson, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Hazel Miller and Cleo Parker Robinson. The Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art in Denver has also acquired six of his bronze sculptures for its permanent collection.
“The artist talk is an opportunity to move beyond simply viewing artwork,” says curator Louise Cutler. “When visitors hear directly from the artists, they gain a deeper understanding of the ideas, materials and experiences that shaped each piece. My hope is that these conversations encourage curiosity, inspire reflection and remind people that art has the power to connect us in meaningful ways.”
Visitors are also encouraged to participate in the exhibition’s Discovery Quest, an interactive experience available throughout the exhibition. Guests can explore the artwork through guided observation and reflection, learn more about the artists and share their own responses as part of the exhibition’s reflection archive.
“The World, Reassembled: Reflections of Self” is on view through Sept. 27 at the Foothills Mall. Admission is free.
