August at the Global Village Museum: Music, Culture, and Mind-Expanding Moments

The Global Village Museum is turning up the cultural volume this August with a dynamic mix of music, international storytelling, trivia, and global connection. Mark your calendars for these one-of-a-kind events that bring the world to your doorstep:

 

August 1 – First Friday: Drum & Marimba Night at the Museum (5–8 PM)
  • Kick off the month with high-energy rhythms from West Africa and Zimbabwe! Enjoy live performances from the Fort Collins African Drum and Dance Collective and Marimba Matatu, plus free admission to all galleries.
August 9 – GVM at Poudre RiverFest (12–5 PM)
  • Celebrate the Poudre River with us at this free, family-friendly festival. Swing by our booth to check out ethically sourced goods from around the world and soak up the live music, activities, and conservation fun.

 

August 12 – 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Lesotho (6–7:30 PM)
  • Get to know the “Kingdom in the Sky” and its surprising ties to Fort Collins in this engaging talk hosted with the Fort Collins International Center. Admission is $10 and includes refreshments.

 

August 14 – Mariupol: Stories of Survival and Occupation (6–7:30 PM)
  • Hear a powerful firsthand account of life during Mariupol’s siege and the realities of occupation, shared by former resident Stephen Connacher. Admission is $10.
August 26 – International Trivia Night: Grape Minds Think Alike (7–9 PM)
  • Team up, sip global wines, and put your world knowledge to the test in this lively evening of international trivia. Admission is $10.
August 28 – Ed Warner’s Lessons from Africa (6–7:30 PM)
  • Discover how market-based solutions are helping African communities thrive while protecting wildlife. Admission is $10 and includes light refreshments.
