Aims Community College is inviting the public to its Ag Day Open House, a free, family-friendly event celebrating local agriculture. The event will provide hands-on educational experiences for all ages, ensuring every participant gains valuable knowledge.
The open house will take place at the Aims Fort Lupton Campus on March 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the vital role agriculture plays in the local economy and daily life through interactive experiences.
“Weld County is one of the top ag-producing areas in the United States,” said Heidi Windell, treasurer of the Aims Board of Trustees. “I’m thrilled that Aims celebrates this legacy on the Fort Lupton Campus.”
The event will feature opportunities to explore Aims Agricultural Science and Technology programs, tour the agricultural sciences greenhouse and classrooms, meet faculty and students, and engage in various fun, educational activities offered by Aims departments and community partners.
Featured Activities and Demonstrations:

Newly Hatched Chicks: Visitors can see baby chicks and learn about poultry care and incubation in the Aims agricultural sciences classroom.

Petting Farm: Sponsored by the Aims Ag Club, this activity offers a chance to interact with farm animals and learn about livestock care.

Drones in Agriculture: Aims’ Aviation program will showcase how drones are used in modern farming for crop monitoring, surveying, and precision agriculture.

Virtual Reality Agricultural Experiences: Presented by Realizing Aptitudes and Dairy Max, this station lets visitors experience the future of agriculture through VR technology.

Veterinary Sciences: Hosted by CSU Sci on the Fly, this exhibit will highlight veterinary science careers and offer hands-on learning related to animal care and health.

CDL Simulator: Experience driving a commercial truck using the Aims CDL Training Program’s high-tech simulator, vital for agricultural transportation.

4-H Youth Club: Meet local 4-H members and learn about the leadership and agricultural skills youth develop through the program.

Seed Lending Library: Learn about personal and community gardening resources, including how to access the Seed Lending Library to start a garden, hosted by the Fort Lupton Public & School Library.
“Agriculture is a cornerstone of our community and economy, and we’re excited to invite the public to experience it firsthand,” said Amy McFarland, Agricultural Sciences and Technology Department Chair. “From animal science and drone technology to sustainable gardening and transportation, Ag Day offers something for everyone, whether you’re a student exploring career options or a community member interested in learning more about where your food comes from.”
Nationally, Agriculture Day is recognized on March 18, 2025, honoring the abundance provided by agriculture and the people behind it, including farmers, ranchers, and researchers. Each year, producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, and government agencies across America celebrate the contributions of agriculture.
