Renew in ’22

I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions. I make Tuesday through Friday resolutions. My on-going list of things-to-do-better can be staggering, and I could hardly limit it to once a year. So maybe I should take the opposite approach as I look toward a whole new year to get it right. Perhaps I should just relax a little.

I think this is why our cover topic was so appealing to me this month. Yoga is certainly a workout that takes skill to improve and hard work to perfect. But it is also an un-workout. You can participate in the stretches and balancing poses of yoga without the need to conquer, and still gain some calmness, stress reduction and a more flexible body. I kind of like that idea.

So, I have decided to look toward 2022 with an idea of renewing rather than the mentality of improving. Maybe instead of starting where I have failed in the past, I am just going to restart and see if I can’t do better without all the baggage.

Part of that, I think, is looking at the good stuff we have going on around us. Trees, Water & People is such an inspiring organization that is making global impacts from right here in Northern Colorado. That’s pretty cool. The daring Jeanne Nott, recently named Ms. Colorado Senior America, is certainly a local treasure, whipping up laughter at senior centers. And even when it comes to our fitness level, taking the approach of eating for mental clarity and happiness (as Dan England explains to us in our Health & Wellness article) sounds a whole lot more doable than eating differently because my jeans are too tight.

I hope 2022 is a year of renewal for you as well—some positivity and not so much pressure. As a magazine, we are taking the opportunity to renew a little as well. We hope that you enjoy some of the changes we are making to bring you an even more enjoyable and interesting magazine this year. It is exciting to grow with our community, as its partner and biggest cheerleader. In the meantime, tell us what you want out of 2022…we love to hear from you!
